A library with hidden places

Gottsunda is a neighborhood in Uppsala with approximately 10,000 inhabitants. The library moved into new premises in 2012 with 1,000 m2 at its disposal. Library facilities are linked to the lecture halls, theater and a restaurant which together form the "Culture point"; a flexible meeting place for both reflection and experiences.

As part of the renovation the library wanted to create an open, inviting space, but at the same time there should be places for children to crawl in for peace and relaxation. The door to the fabulous room is hidden behind a bookcase - as so often in the world of fairytales.

Throughout the library a combination of Frontline and the round Slimline shelving systems are used to create different departments. Instead of a overall wooden surface on all shelving systems, the library has chosen three different wood veneers: oak, birch and ash. In the children's/youth department lacquered Linnéa book browsers in differnt heights are used for picture books.
