Lammhults Biblioteksdesign has been chosen to supply furniture for the new library in Gent Waalse Krook, Belgium
The library will be located in a new building designed by the award winning architects Coussée & Goris architecten/RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes and will open in March 2017.
The building has an area of 14,000 m2 over six floors with a surface area on the size of a soccer field and formed as a steel barge moored in the city center. 3,000 tons of steel are used for the building; this steel look is also present inside the building with an interior that includes custom made steel shelving systems.
The library will serve more than 2,000 daily visitors and is mapped to operate better and faster. The key task of the library is to provide access to knowledge and culture, but in today’s digital age with an oversupply of information, the library also wants to help visitors find their way into all of this information and familiarize them with the new media. To support the digital media, it is convenient that the building will also house Ghent University, REC Radio Center and iMinds (research center for digital media).
