Comfort, accessibility and experience

Schilde Library is evolving – it is no longer just a place to find great books, but a space to connect with others and experience culture. The previous interior no longer met modern expectations, prompting a complete transformation.

In the youth section, visitors can now enjoy a cosy reading hut, complete with playful chairs and cushions shaped like tree stumps. For adults, there are inviting reading corners, quiet study zones and a versatile reading room.

Librarian Tim Leyssens reflects on the new interior:
“We focused on warmth, accessibility and a playful spirit for younger visitors. For adults, we naturally wanted to make room for the collection, but also to create more opportunities for reading, studying and gathering in a multifunctional reading room. We also placed great emphasis on natural light and an open, airy atmosphere. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the new look of the library. Our youngest visitors love the reading hut, and many borrowers say the library now feels much more welcoming. The reading room is often full, and families with children are spending more and more time here.”

With focus on comfort, accessibility and an enriching experience, the library in Schilde has grown into a place where everyone feels welcome.
