A new library in Zingem: Accessible, professional and user-friendly
The old library in Zingem was housed in an outdated presbytery – a cramped and inefficient building that no longer met the needs of its visitors. In contrast, the new library has been carefully designed with accessibility and professionalism at its core.
Librarian Hans Van Hoecke explains: “The design of the space was the foundation of our approach. From there, we meticulously planned how much space to allocate to each collection, resulting in an inviting and user-friendly library.”
The collections are displayed on bespoke library shelves, specifically designed to meet the needs of the community. The lower shelves are angled to ensure books on the bottom levels are easily accessible. Meanwhile, the combination of wooden elements and white finishes ensures the books themselves remain the focus of attention.
Hans Van Hoecke continues: “Feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. Since the renovated library opened, we’ve seen a significant increase in both visitor numbers and book loans.”
