‘Going to the library changed my life. It may have even saved it’ – Billy Connolly

Opening to the public in December 2019 after a year long closure, Partick Library has received incredible feedback. Thedesignconcept worked closely with Glasgow Life on the re-design to ensure the Grade C listed building’s features were considered and included in the design. Original shelving was kept in the main library, with contemporary furniture and displays introduced to modernise the space. Quotes from local comedian Billy Connolly can be found on the walls as a tribute to the local boy who grew up using the library.

The Children’s Library has been completely revamped. Brightly coloured walls, shelving and furniture capture users attention and creates a space where youngsters want to spend time. A multi-platform stage can be used for events and a sensory nook, the first available in Glasgow, provides a safe space for children with additional needs.
BCI 60/30 freestanding mobile shelving is used for easy flexibility in the Children’s area and bespoke wall mounted shelving meets requirements set out for the space by Glasgow Life.

Overall the library has received incredible feedback from local councillors, staff and users and we are proud to have been a part of this amazing project.
